A growing spin-off from a global leader in high-pressure equipment and process engineering has an immediate need for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a team that is rapidly expanding its core technologies into new energy applications. The company specializes in the design, development and commercialization of novel, green processes that improve energy efficiency and make alternative forms of energy cost effective.  

Job Summary

This position entails all facets of mechanical engineering: heat transfer, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, stress analysis, mechanics, materials, and controls.  Combine basic engineering calculations with mechanical engineering software tools to produce and analyze new and existing designs.  Work with manufacturing groups to complete design, assembly, testing and installation. 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Designing, analyzing, and testing rotating and reciprocating machinery;
  • Specifying and selecting equipment and associated components, including pumps, heat exchangers, seals, pressure vessels, valves, piping systems, and other system components.
  • Designing experiments and testing rigs for new equipment and components.
  • Hands-on testing and analyzing of new equipment and components.
  • Working with vendors and project partners.
  • Developing and generating project and component documentation including equipment, drawings, process flow diagrams, bills of material, and component and system manuals.

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelors or masters degree in mechanical engineering with a minimum 3-5 years of experience.
  • 2D and 3D solid modeling experience such as SolidWorks or equivalent.
  • Experience on ASME vessel, design and piping, integrated system design, and component sizing and design.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical assemblies involving moving parts, close fits and tolerances.
  • Experience developing and generating project and component documentation including equipment, drawings, process flow diagrams, bills of materials, project schedules and component and system manuals.

Preferred Characteristics

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with high pressure systems and reciprocating machinery.
  • Experience in new product development and equipment optimization.
  • Working knowledge of and experience with CFD and FEA tools, applied numerical methods and programming experience such as C++, MATHCAD, MATLAB, or Visual Basic
  • Self-starter who enjoys working in a small company environment with a wide degree of creativity and opportunity for growth.
