Surgicorps International Board of Directors (the Board) is seeking an Executive Director who will report to the Board and is responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of mission objectives, fundraising growth and success, and for the leadership of planning and development to ensure long term sustainability.  

Job Summary

The Executive Director is responsible for the delivery of efficient and high-quality services within a financial framework established by the Board. Strong management skills, innovation, energy and a sophisticated approach are required to deliver on the Surgicorps mission and to evolve and expand the scope of the organization’s impact over the coming years, while also managing a growing volunteer and donor base. We seek a hands-on leader that can be nimble and adaptable. Our Executive Director will need to be experienced in seeking out and creating partnerships (donors, volunteers, organizations, facilities and providers) that will further our mission. The Executive Director must have a demonstrated ability to lead individuals and teams. Surgicorps has demonstrated growth and financial stability over the past 5 years and is ready to expand its impact and lay the groundwork for long-term sustainability. Responsibilities and Duties

Leadership and Management

• Provides the leadership to ensure that the organization effectively achieves its mission. This includes day-to-day operations, fiscal management, personnel development, board evolution, fund raising, and program development and expansion.

• Develops a strategic plan in cooperation with the Board, which incorporates the assumptions and actions required of the organization for continued success and sustainability; and then establishes and effectively implements annual operating plans.

• Manages the organization’s financial position. Creates, implements, and monitors the budgetary process.

• Demonstrates flexibility to meet changing needs of the organization.

• Follows all applicable federal and state regulations, including compliance and employment regulations. Creates and/or complies with all Surgicorps policies and procedures. 

Fundraising and Community Relations

• Develops, implements and manages all fundraising activity of the organization, in cooperation with the Board and staff. Participates in setting fundraising objectives and leads accomplishment of those objectives.

• Has personal responsibility for cultivating and maintaining relationships with the organization’s key individual and institutional donors.

• Maintains effective and productive relationships with the community at large. 

Board and External Relations

• Participates in Board recruitment and collaborates with Board leadership to promote governance best practices that support fiduciary responsibilities and strategic goals.

• Supports the work of the Board and all relevant committees and maximizes the contributions of new and existing board members.

• Supports the organizational development of the Board.

• Communicates appropriate, timely, and complete information to the Board.

• Through the Board’s committee structure, provides guidance and authorization to carry out major plans, standards, and procedures, consistent with established policies and Board approval. 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

In the near term, the Executive Director will be expected to continue to deliver outstanding outcomes while successfully addressing the following:

• Learn the history and core values of the organization.

• Evaluate the organization’s performance with special emphasis on fundraising, partnerships, program delivery and community engagement.

• Build knowledge about donor constituencies to inform the development and promotion of funding opportunities to retain, recruit and maximize resources from diverse revenue sources.

• Facilitate healthy communication between all internal and external stakeholders of the organization: Board, Staff, volunteers, contractors, and the public at large. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The successful Executive Director candidate will be an experienced and tested leader with entrepreneurial spirit, who possesses a combination of the following:

• Bachelor’s degree. Relevant Master’s degree preferred.

• A demonstrated passion for the international service mission and a focus on patient care; prior volunteer or paid international experience desired.

• Substantial and successful experience as a leader within an organization similar in size, scope, stage and scale of impact including experience working with a Board of Directors.

• Directly responsible for leading positive organizational change including but not limited to strategic skill assessment and growth board evolution and strategic planning.

Prior experience developing, implementing and serving as a lead fundraiser within an established, comprehensive and successful fundraising program with a proven ability to meet and exceed significant fundraising goals. 

• Quantifiable experience in cultivating, soliciting and receiving support from diverse audiences. • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally

. • Strong financial acumen, management ability, and an ethical servant leader approach to work. • Strategically agile. A visionary who doesn’t lose sight of daily operations.

• Technical proficiency and self-sufficiency working with standard workplace software tools and preferably experienced with both non-profit specific software suites and social media toolsets. (e.g. DonorPro)
