Position Summary
Innovation Works is seeking a strategic and experienced Chief Investment Officer (CIO) to lead the organization’s investment strategy, portfolio management activities, and venture investment operations.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CIO will play a key leadership role in shaping IW’s investment strategy, operational priorities, and investment budgeting processes. This individual will oversee investment activities across IW’s accelerator, seed, and venture fund portfolios, including both new and follow-on investments.
The CIO will lead investment due diligence efforts, manage portfolio performance and reporting, maintain investor relationships, and identify innovative opportunities and initiatives that support entrepreneurs and portfolio companies. The CIO will also chair IW’s Investment Committee and serve as a Managing Director of Riverfront Ventures, IW’s for-profit venture fund.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide strategic oversight and direction for IW’s investment portfolio and investment processes
- Chair the Investment Committee
- Lead investment due diligence activities and draft investment memoranda
- Oversee investment operations, portfolio monitoring, and investor reporting
- Ensure quarterly and annual fund reports and audited financial statements are issued accurately and on time
- Lead the Fund’s Annual Limited Partner (LP) Meeting
- Supervise and mentor investment team members
- Maintain accurate capitalization tables, financial records, and portfolio data
- Ensure portfolio activity is properly documented in Salesforce and reporting platforms
- Maintain and expand relationships with investors and strategic partners
- Lead investor outreach initiatives and support fundraising efforts
- Support portfolio companies through networking opportunities and investor introductions
- Oversee portfolio collection activities
- Collaborate on annual reports and financing trend publications
- Support the development of new funding opportunities and strategic partnerships
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field required
- MBA or advanced degree preferred
- Demonstrated experience in investment portfolio management
- Experience in venture capital, private equity, investment banking, or entrepreneurial ecosystems preferred
