Position Overview
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Innovation Works, Inc. serves as the senior financial leader, reporting directly to the President and CEO. The CFO is responsible for all aspects of financial management and internal operations, including accounting, budgeting, financial planning, compliance, grant and fund administration, reporting, risk management, payroll, procurement, and information systems oversight. The CFO ensures strong financial stewardship, supports mission-driven decision-making, and promotes a culture of integrity, accountability, and operational excellence.
Primary Responsibilities
• Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, cash management, and financial planning.
• Develop the annual organizational budget and multi-year financial plans.
• Ensure accurate, timely internal and external financial reporting.
• Lead all grant administration activities, including compliance with federal, state, local, and private funding requirements.
•Lead fund administration activities, including cash flow management, financial reporting and regulatory compliance.
• Oversee financial components of grant proposals, budgeting, tracking, reporting, and closeout.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, financial policies, and risk management processes.
• Manage payroll, benefits administration, and personnel-related financial processes in partnership with HR.
• Oversee procurement, contract review, and vendor management.
• Ensure compliance with all audit, tax, and regulatory obligations; coordinate annual audits and serve as primary liaison with auditors.
• Prepare and present financial statements, updates, and analyses to the President & CEO and Board of Directors.
• Oversee administration of restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring proper allocation, reporting, and stewardship.
• Supervise and develop finance, accounting, payroll, and related staff; foster a culture of strong performance and accountability.
• Maintain and safeguard all organizational financial records, contracts, and essential documents.
• Provide strategic financial guidance to support organizational decision-making, sustainability, and long-term planning.
• Oversee the management and optimization of financial systems and information technology resources as they relate to finance operations.
Qualifications and Requirements
• Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline; MBA or CPA strongly preferred.
• Extensive experience in financial and accounting management, preferably within nonprofit organizations and/or the private sector.
• Demonstrated experience managing federal, state, and private grants, including compliance, reporting, and budgeting.
• Proven experience developing and managing internal financial controls, policies, and procedures.
• Experience supervising staff and building effective financial teams.
• Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, fund accounting, and cost allocation methodologies.
• Experience with financial systems, reporting tools, and technology-supported operations.
