Innovation Works Inc Investment Associate

 

Position Summary

The Investment Associate reports directly to the Chief Investment Officer and plays a key role in supporting Innovation Works investment activities across its portfolio of companies. This position focuses on managing day to day investment transactions, maintaining portfolio and investment data, assisting with follow on investor relationships, and supporting fund operations.

The Investment Associate also supports the Managing Directors in managing Innovation Works for profit venture capital fund Riverfront Ventures LLC. Responsibilities include assisting with due diligence on prospective investments, drafting investment memoranda, monitoring portfolio company performance, and supporting investor reporting.

In addition, the Investment Associate assists Innovation Works in house Legal Counsel with legal and compliance related tasks involving portfolio companies.

This is a key position within Innovation Works and requires a high level of integrity organization judgment and attention to detail. The role provides broad exposure to venture capital transactions due diligence portfolio management and the legal aspects of private equity investing.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain Innovation Works portfolio company database including debt equity warrants and other securities
  • Maintain the master portfolio spreadsheet of external follow on investments
  • Track portfolio company revenues and financing activity
  • Model portfolio company transactions including note conversions equity raises repayment plans and acquisitions
  • Maintain records of cash investments and number of deals by program fiscal year and calendar year updated twice annually
  • Support the Chief Investment Officer in maintaining relationships with potential follow on investors
  • Create update and maintain databases of investor contacts
  • Lead efforts to connect portfolio companies with follow on investors including investor introductions Demo Day participation investor events and roadshows
  • Assist with investor outreach and relationship management for Riverfront Ventures

 

  • Support the investment funnel by preparing board materials coordinating due diligence and supporting deal screening
  • Manage due diligence for Riverfront Ventures investments
  • Draft investment memoranda and present to the Riverfront Ventures Investment Committee
  • Prepare materials for Investment Committee meetings attend meetings record minutes and distribute documentation
  • Input quarterly investment data into reporting platforms including Moneytree Dow Jones PitchBook CB Insights Preqin Mattermark and Crunchbase
  • Track and update investment and portfolio company activity in Salesforce
  • Manage Riverfront Ventures quarterly reporting process
  • Conduct annual portfolio company valuations as part of the audit process
  • Create and distribute annual reports on financing trends
  • Collaborate with EY to produce an annual report on investment and exit activity in the Pittsburgh region
  • Provide financial support to portfolio companies including projections fundraising strategy and term sheet guidance
  • Hold regular office hours at AlphaLab and AlphaLab Gear
  • Support the National Hardware Cup team in securing investor judges
  • Attend venture angel and industry events
  • Attend Meet and Greet and Lunch and Learn sessions with investment candidates
  • Assist Innovation Works in house Legal Counsel with portfolio related legal matters
  • Support business development and marketing teams with data analysis for grant proposals reports website updates and press materials

 

Perform other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • A finance, scientific, or technical degree is preferred
  • Prior experience or familiarity with venture capital startups or entrepreneurial environments preferred
