HiberSense is a technology startup company based in Pittsburgh solving two problems, saving energy in heating/cooling and creating comfortable temperatures every person in each room, offering a connected climate control comprehensive solution.  

Our solution takes into account user preferences from a web/mobile app and data from sensors in each room to intelligently control both wireless motorized vents as well as the HVAC unit (furnace or AC) to deliver the right amount of hot/cold air to each room to make each person comfortable.  All the intelligence is driven by machine learning and done at a local gateway (the HiberHub) or on the Cloud; communications are secure.  Our devices last 5+ years on AA batteries, because power consumption is a major design concern.

HiberSense is growing its technical and non-technical teams.  As a startup company, we need to be flexible and nimble. We are looking for individuals to fill positions that relate to the following projects.  The ideal candidate has a set of skills that covers more than one of the projects and subprojects, and is eager to dive into uncharted territories, take responsibility for parts of the systems and move it forward quickly.

Responsibilities and Duties

Applicants should describe in a short statement which of the following parts of the system they can and want to contribute to, and why they'd be the best candidate.  Candidates that match several of the parts will be given serious consideration.

1.     Enhancing HiberHub software, focused on (a) data analysis, time series data, scripts to detect anomalies, scrubbing the database, visualization; (b) control of the HVAC unit and/or vents, to enable delivery of forced air at the right rate to the right place at the right time; (c) refactoring software, with a flexible software architecture that can grow, that is amenable to software management, and that allows for modular design and other modules to interact with it

2.     Enhancing, for our  devices (HiberSensors and HiberVents), the embedded programming, contributing to the embedded hardware design, and general engineering help, focusing on (a) the communications between HiberHub and our devices, currently using BlueTooth (BLE), but knowledge of other protocols is welcome; (b) coordination between the electronics design and the mechanical engineering aspects of the devices; (c) power management aspects of the devices

3.     Creating a data architecture and infrastructure for (a) visualization of the data and great user experience (dashboard and notifications), (b) determining the data architecture of the hub (e.g., what to store/get from the hub, how to store it, etc); (c) specifying the database management architecture on the hub and/or cloud

4.     Full-stack/app development and web development with a focus on enhancing the structure of the software (currently based on javascript)

5.     Enhance operations, customer experience, and product management for (a) understanding the technical background and also the business side; (b) working with customer to enhance the product, interesting in becoming the liaison between customers and engineers both for bringing to light new features and also issues found by customers; (d) setup for the installation process, assessing its efficacy and enhancing its efficiency based on observation and interviews

 

 

Compensation will be a mixture of salary and equity in the company, and is negotiable based on the candidate's experience and contribution.
